Sullivan (a.k.a. Zack)

Dave and Dawn’s Happy Tail

We adopted Sullivan (Sully) (a.k.a Zack) in late February of 2009. He was the cutest puppy in Town and certainly made waves at the local Dog Park. Everyone always asked what he was and we would just say Husky Mix! Out of curiously, last month we decided to get him DNA tested through DNA My Dog and wow, were we surprised! Here is our little Husky’s Mix:

Sullivan:

Breed Level

Parson Russell Terrier 3

Pug 4

Weimaraner 4

German Shepherd Dog 4

Akita 4

Poodle 4

What your dogs breed composition means:
Level 1
This category is intended to help owners recognize when their pet's DNA contains a majority of a specific breed (75% or greater). If your dog has a strong match to one of our validated breeds, then it is categorized as Level 1. Most mixed breed dogs will not usually have a breed in this category unless one or both of their parents are purebred.
Level 2
This category reports breeds that are easily recognizable within your dog. While these breeds may have a strong influence on your pet, each breed listed makes up less than the majority of your dog's DNA, between 37%-74%. This usually means one of the parents was a purebred.
Level 3
This category identifies breeds that have between 20%-36% of the listed breed(s), usually coming from a grandparent.
Level 4
Represents 10%-20% of the breed DNA, usually coming from a great grandparent
Level 5
This level represents the lowest level of breed in your dog occurring at 5% or less. However, they still appear at a low and measurable amount in your pet's DNA.

Turns out he doesn’t have any Husky! Funny cause that is what everyone thinks he is.

Sully has grown into a super strong pup – roughly 75 pounds currently (makes sense with the big dogs) and he is very strong willed (that must be the PUG!).

Sully is happy at his new home and has finally made friends with the cat, Piha. At first he caused Piha some major stress with the constant ambushes and tossing around, however they now give each other plenty of kisses. We have also nicknamed him monster as he gets into lots of trouble. He has chewed several cell phones and really likes anything on the counter. He did go to puppy training school however I think they only passed him because he’s cute!

Thank you for everything that your rescue group does, you have brought the monster of fun and joy to our house and we are more than smitten with Sully. He is one of a kind. He even gets to lay on the couch and bed, we can’t say no to that face!

Please forward the DNA to Aimee’s other pups so they can see what wonderful mongrels they are!

Regards,

Dawn and Dave

Osa

To PDCR,

It's past due for an update on my pupsicle, Osa. I adopted her back in January and she has been the most awesome, sweetest addition to the house.

Osa loves to wrestle like she's a big dog, happily playing with Marty, my Akita/Shepherd mix even though she's a third of his size. Osa loves to tease and torment other dogs, biting their tails and ankles when their back is turned and when they spin to face her she rolls over and submits right away - only to start again once they've turned again.

Osa has to be one of the cuddliest dogs around, she likes to ensure that she has absolute maximum surface area plastered against your body and loves anybody with a pulse.

I'm convinced Osa aspires to becoming a tasting-mouth dog (similar to a seeing-eye dog). Most things don't even have a chance of hitting the floor - and it doesn't have to be what we humans would usually call 'food'.

Osa has this amazing ability to convince people that she needs to be carried! Natalie was right when she told me Osa was going to be a princess. Somehow Osa manages to convince people at the vet, doggy daycare, and kennel to carry her. I don't know how she does it, but they always seem to be holding her when they bring her out to me. Everyone comments about what a sweetheart she is.

Osa still seems overwhelmed in the big world, and sometimes seems to worry that she'll be left behind. When we go into a new environment she'll often wait by the door or the gate to make sure that when I leave I have to pass by her - just so I won't forget to bring her with me.

Thank you for giving Osa a chance and rescuing her - she'll never be left behind again.

Hickory (aka Doc)

Hello,

Hickory is still quite the adorable little guy. He loves to chat at us and tells quite the elaborate stories. (He has been given the nickname Monkey because some of his chatter is almost monkey like). He loves to play with his cousins (and I suspect he would love a sibling). He gets around really well, with only occasional stumbles. He runs and jumps and pounces but is careful when around a group of dogs as they are sometimes to playful for him. He is still working on how to say hello to cats.

Well thats about all for now,

Sabrina, Jason, and Hickory

Vince

Hi Natalie and all the fantastic volunteers @ PDCR,

I figure it is Vince's turn to be part of the happy tails updates.

Vince is doing fantastic!! We keep asking ourselves "what did we do before Vince?"

He is still a silly pup, but it is amazing to see him mature into abeautiful dog. The chubby pup we adopted in February has turned into astrong, energetic, and confident dog. He is no longer fearful of being dropped off and abandoned by the ones he loves. He has really filled ourlives with love and laughs. He is still such a mush ball, enjoying cuddles(not with you but on top of you!) and plays at the dog run (I am pretty sure he thinks it is a party just for him). He is inseparable with our first rescue dog, Bauer. They love falling asleep together on the couch while looking out the front window. Vince loves Koocanusa Lake where he has officially ran off birds, deer and an alpaca. I am not sure if PDCR realizes that we adopted a potbelly pig rather than a pitbull X because he loves rolling in mud holes and snorting like a pig (it is like he is laughing!)

We are so thankful for the second (and third) chance Vince was given byPDCR. Without him our lives would not be the same (and definitely less exciting).
Thank you,
Brittany and Kris

Logan (a.k.a Davy) & Luna (a.k.a. Shasta)

Logan started his wee life as one of the Pirates Davy ... who knew this wee little pooch would become the big boy he is today!
We drove to meet Davy and his brothers a snowy day when he was almost 5 weeks old and he came to live with us in December. His first birthday just past on October 12. Best birthday surprise was meeting up with his mama Shasta (now Luna) and her wonderful new family. You can see by the pictures Logan is a big boy compared to his mom. It was a very cold afternoon but so good to see them and Luna's pooch pal Rosie along with her people!Logan is unaware of his size and romps and plays, with our 5 other dogs and the foster dogs that spend some time in our home, as if he were petite. He is such a sweet lovely boy. He is great where ever he goes, loves everyone and makes a lasting impression ... sometimes literally having cleared a low table with his ever wagging tail!
We love our gentle giant.
Thank you so much PDCR & foster mom Julia for giving him such a great start!
Jodi
It was such a treat to meet Jodi and Logan at the park for a reunion with Luna. Jodi had decided to keep Logan's size to herself and let it be a surprise. I couldn't quite believe my eyes when he came gallumphing out of the truck. I yelled, "HE'S HUGE!". It was hard to believe how big he'd gotten, and hilarious to watch him and Luna running together. They do the same pace with Luna going flat out and Logan cantering at a leisurely pace beside with those long legs!
We had great fun explaining to some of the other dog people at the park that Luna is Logan's Mamma - everyone does a double-take!It was lots of fun to see what a sweet boy he is, and really really lovely.
Thanks again Jodi for coming out to meet with us, we'll have to do it again! And thanks again Julia for the gift of Luna and all you did to give her a great transition to our home. She is a truly snuggly girl, who really loves life and is smart, but nutty and a huge goof ball. She adores Sophie and listens to her well and also snuggles with her all the time. I can't overstate how much we love love love her.
Take care both of you!
Mary Jo

Yogi (aka Bart)

Hi my name is Yogi, I used to be named Black Bart from the Pirate puppies.

My parents decided I looked like a little bear when they got me home so the name Yogi stuck. I turned a year old on Monday and my mom thought it was time for an update! I got adopted last December at an adoption fair and had no problems fitting into my family. I lucked out and got two older brothers! One of my brothers only has two legs but we play all the time and sometimes get into trouble but nothing too bad. My other brother, Skunk, is furry and has four legs and we play and wrestle all of the time. Skunk might be smaller than me but he is still my big brother and when he tells me enough...that really means enough! I was lucky enough to be able to go to Waterton this summer a couple times and really love it in the water...that's so much more fun than a bath. I love going for walks, car rides, chasing my brothers, camping and vegging out on Mom and Dad's bed.

Thanks so much for finding me a good home it has made me and my family soooo happy, we really appreciate everything you guys do!

Jasper (aka Timmy)

After patiently waiting for months Timmy, now known as Jasper, is playing and relaxing in his new furever home. Here are some photos we recently received from his new owner.

Timmy in his new home, with his "sister" Juni. They have a lot of fun, every morning! Timmy loves to get hugs and kisses from his new owner also!

Timmy with his other "sister" Mina. Mina is very old, and sometimes crotchety, but she is already protective of Timmy.

Thank you for sending this wonderful little dog to us!
Sincerely,
Sandra

Andy

Hi Jenilee

I just thought I would give you another update. Andy is awesome! What a good boy he is. We are all so incredibly happy. He is just the perfect doggy for us. You were right he is knocking my socks off. He has fit in really well, he is eating much better now and getting nicely adjusted. He is still nervous of some situations but he is learning that he is now safe and will never be hurt so hopefully with time he can forget where he came from. I cant thank you enough he is just a little treasure and he is loving his new home and neighbourhood so much. He has not had any potty problems goes outside everytime, sleeps all night, he is quiet except when he is talking to me which is hilarious and he listens really well. Just wanted you to know that we all couldn't be happier.

Thank you a million times,
Wendy

Jackson (aka Helix)

Hi Jenilee,

I thought I should check in and let you know how Jackson (aka Helix) is doing; first off and most obvious is the name change. He didn’t quite seem like a Helix to us so after many days of Helix, Felix, Jasper, Bear, and few others I can’t remember; we settled on Jackson. He’s adjusted well to city life; walking on the leash, enjoying the off leash park; roaming our back garden all within the shadow of our older Golden Howie.

By far Jackson’s favourite time has been spent at our house in the mountains enjoying absolutely all activities including daily swims in the river. Many times it’s difficult getting him to come out of the water as he seems to feel that he’s more aquatic than a land dweller. He’s been a great addition to our family and it’s hard to believe he’s only been with us for a few short months.

Many thanks to you and the other volunteers who help the animals,

Enjoy the remainder of the summer,

Cheers,

Kari

Carly (aka Snip)

Hi! Sorry this has been a long time coming but here are some pictures of our adorable Carly. She has fit in here very well and she definitely keeps us very busy. We have had 4 "pee free" days in the house and she is sleeping between 6-7 hours during the night. Casey plays her out quite well and they have lots of girl talk. Cleo (our cat) still looks at us funny but she flicks her tail at Carly and sometimes chases Carly's tail. Casey makes a good teacher and slowly we can see progression. We still make lots of mistakes as owners however we laugh when we fail.

Today Carly took her first road trip to Canmore and she did great. We had the crate but she preferred to sleep on the back seat. I rode in the back seat there but was able to sit up front again on the way back. Carly runs like an elephant and loves to be chased by Casey.

Enjoy!
Jackie & Greg

Max (aka Mickey)

Well...he made it! From his tough start in life, through PDCR, to today...what a change! Max is 47 lbs of energy and fun and has turned into such an intelligent, entertaining and faithful companion. He's not a huge snuggler yet can easily be found as my second shadow; never far from either inside or outside-very sweet!

Guess what I am really trying to tell you is....how much I've learned, how lucky we are and to say once again on Max's birthday...Thank You, Thank You, Thank You and keep doing what you do so well! (Please pass this along to who ever had been his foster mom...she laid some great foundation for us to build on!)

Marlene n' Max =0)

Happy Birthday Max from all of us at PDCR!!!

Toby

I just wanted to let you know that Toby has adjusted very well in his new home. At first his new siblings weren't that keen on having someone new to share their home with. With Toby's loving little personality they are really learning to love him. He loves to curl up on the bed with us as well as share the big dog bed with Rusty. It is so much fun to watch him play fetch, he is really fast. He is a real pleasure to have in the family. Thank you for all that you and the other volunteers do for the dogs. We are very grateful to have Toby.

Sincerely
Anita

Bingo Part 2 (a.k.a. Frodo)

Hello to everyone.

Just wanted to give you a brief update on BINGO. To sum it up in a nut shell.....WE LOVE HIM. He is an amazing dog. He has fit right in with our family. None of us can imagine life without him. We just went camping for five days. He was such a great boy. He was off leash 90% of the time and made friends with so many other dogs and people. By the time we left everyone in the campsite was say "Hi Bingo or here comes Bingo". We did not have to worry about him at all. We went exploring a lighthouse. I took a picture of him at the bottom and we were at the top. Well before we knew it, up the stairs comes Bingo. Then we went down and he just followed like it was nothing. They were steep too. I just wanted to update you and Thank you once again for letting us adopt him. He is a true blessing in our lives.

Shauna

Sadie (a.k.a. Jovi)

Sadie is doing great!!! She is my finance (Jon) and mine first dog together and she brings so much joy to our lives everyday. She is a very active dog, usually going for a run every morning and a long walk in the park at night. Her favourite activities are playing in the river and chasing her frisbee. She also has many playmates that she plays with on weekends.

Sadie has a wonderful personality!!! She always looks like she is smiling. She follows me around the house and is just happy being where I am. She loves to sleep on our bed but only if there is one person in it. Otherwise, she sleeps in her crate or on the floor in our room.

When we got Sadie Jon said he didn't want her on the couches however, her first few days in our home she was sooo itchy that she would scratch till she was whimpering. Jon would scoop her up and cuddle her on the couch and tell her if she fell asleep that the itchiness would go away. So to this day her favourite place to sleep is of course on the couch.

Thank you so much for everything that PDCR does to save these wonderful dogs and finding them loving forever homes.
Yours Truly,
Brittany and Jon

Koda (aka Gwen)

We wanted to let you know that Koda is doing great in her new home. I am a great puppy and I make my mom proud everyday. When I first came to my new home I liked to jump up on people because I was just so excited to see everyone but now have learned that I need to wait until I am invited up. My mom didn't want me to jump up on the kids because she was scared I would hurt them. I really love playing with the kids Haley is always talking to me and Luke always throws toys for me. My mom is so amazed that I have only had one accident in the house and that was on the first night there so I was a little excited. I LOVE my friend Mya (golden retriever) she lets me play with her when ever I want and helps me to do the right things when I forget and holy she can run fast but now that I am a little older I can kind of keep up. I was a little lonely with out her because she was bit by a rattlesnake in the field behind our house and had to spend two days in the hospital.... I was ssoo happy when she came home and I am really happy that she is all better and can play with me again. One of our favourite games is tug-a-war. I went on my very first camping trip and it was ssoo much fun I was aloud to stay off my leash the whole time because I always listened to my family and was so good. At night my mom lets me up on the couch for a snuggle before bed sometimes I snuggle her for an hour I love it so much. My mom is always saying how gentle and good I am and how happy they all are to have me in the family. I will write you again to let you know how my surgery goes next month. Thank you so much for finding me a loving home. Koda and family
